To Seal or Not to Seal?
The industry tells homeowners "Seal every year." This is an oversimplification. Over-sealing dense stones causes a hazy film.
The Dense Stones (No Seal Needed)
Absolute Black, Black Galaxy, Blue Pearl.
These stones have extremely low porosity (less than 0.2%). Sealer won't absorb; it will just dry on top and look ugly. Just clean with soap and water.
The Porous Stones (Must Seal)
Kashmir White, Ivory Brown, Colonial White.
Lighter stones are more porous. They absorb wine and oil easily. We recommend a high-quality "Impregnating Sealer" (like chemically bonding silicone) applied every 1-2 years.
The Water Drop Test
Pour a teaspoon of water on the counter. If it darkens the stone within 5 minutes, you need to seal. If it beads up, you are safe.
